OMG, that’s HILARIOUS!
Yes, I like the jazzy music.
Ditch the Coke. It will only get you in trouble.
I want one of those work stations. Oh, wait a minute, I want one of those TREADMILLS too! ha ha
You go girl! Love all the cool things your doing.
…And by the way, my students are LOVING Acadian Star!!
Comment by Natasha Boudreau-Munro on February 7th, 2009 @ 10:19 pmGreat first vlog! You need to release your hubby’s plans. I have the treadmill …
Comment by Karen Bass on February 7th, 2009 @ 11:34 pmHey, Karen! Come take a walk on the wild side!
The recommended speed is a mile an hour, so it was easy to forget I was walking while working. DH used a piece of melamine shelving (13″) and added brackets to the bottom. They slip right onto the handles.
I logged 3 hours today! I think I’ll be sore tomorrow.
Hey, Anita! I got the idea from your post re: Art, of course.
Hey, Nat! L’Acadie pour toujours! So happy your students are enjoying Acadian Star. Woohoo!
Comment by Hélène on February 8th, 2009 @ 12:09 amWay to go, Helene! And yay to supportive hubbies!!

I don’t know whether that’s genius or the best writing procrastination technique I’ve ever come across!!!!
Looking forward to more VLOGs!!
Comment by Sharon J on February 8th, 2009 @ 9:49 amLOL–that is the best! Love the wild attempt at coke sponsorship!! Let me know if they bite! And seriously, I’m going to try to create one too–sadly, marrying the principal doesn’t help…
Comment by marina on February 8th, 2009 @ 9:55 amHi Angela! *snaps* to awesome hubbies everywhere!
Comment by Hélène on February 8th, 2009 @ 10:17 amHey, Sharon!
Well it *did* take three hours of my writing time to execute this project from start to finish. But really. Now I’m going to get down to some actual work. Honest.
Comment by Hélène on February 8th, 2009 @ 10:20 amMarina, Coke hasn’t called yet.
But, I might hold out for a bigger deal from Spirit Fitness Products. Cause, yanno, I’m just such a fitness icon now. *srnfle*
Helene…I just looked at the news piece on this too…I think it is brilliant…I am looking forward to more vlogs too!
Comment by Annette on February 8th, 2009 @ 11:56 amWow; go Helene! I wonder if I could write on my stationary bike! Does your husband have any ideas for a bike desk?!
Vive le sport!
xx Francesca
Wow Helene! You go, girl!!!
I’m soooo jealous of that set-up — my hubbie has some wonderful qualities, but engineering and handywork aren’t part of the package!
Hi An! Isn’t that ABC piece awesome? Totally inspirational. I’ve logged four hours on the treadmill since yesterday. Which goes to show how much time I actually spend on my laptop. Shocking! But at least now I’m doing something active as well.
I’m gonna try to set up some kind of logging system (maybe twitter?) to keep track of how far I’ve gone.
Comment by Hélène on February 8th, 2009 @ 5:54 pmWelcome, Francesca!
I think you could totally do this on the bike. My treadmill is ideal for this set up because the two sidebars have a bit of a slant, plut there’s a cross bar to support the ‘desk’. DH used a piece of melamine shelving and arranged brackets underneath that just slip right over the handles. It’s very solid. Depending on your bike, you may be able to do something similar or use a tall table that fits under/over the bike.
Something like this, maybe?

Just remember, I am only going 1 mile an hour (I’m doing it right now, actually!) which is about 1/3 of the speed I’d normally go if I was exercise/walking, so adjust your speed accordingly.
Let me know if you give it a try!!
Comment by Hélène on February 8th, 2009 @ 6:02 pmHi Deborah! It’s rather addictive. I don’t even think about walking while I’m typing. Now, to get down to some actual *work*.
Helene,
Haha…that’s awesome!
Keep on truckin’.
Hélène, this is totally adorable. I especially love the framed cover in the background—but is it die cut?!
Comment by Penelope on February 9th, 2009 @ 8:53 amHiya, Jen! I’m up to 6 hours so far…I’m a hurtin’ unit.
It’s all good, though.
Hi Penelope! No, not die-cut like the real deal. The diet coke is real, though. And I do all my own stunts.
Comment by Hélène on February 9th, 2009 @ 1:51 pmI totally loved your first vlog! It made me laugh out loud. I would love to have that same set up myself — my hubby’s pretty handy. However, I don’t own a treadmill, and to be truthful… I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone write! LOL. Can’t wait to see more vlogs!
Comment by Marisa on February 10th, 2009 @ 9:11 pmAw, you can do it, Marisa! Really, I’m not the most coordinated person, but since I’m only going a mile an hour, I hardly notice. I’ve logged in 2 hours so far today and 9 in total since the weekend. Gotta work off the 10 lbs the camera has added!
This is great, good for you! How many hours have you logged now?
Comment by Kymberley on February 21st, 2009 @ 10:28 pm12 hours so far, Kymberley. I’m hoping to get a few more in this week while I work on revisions.
Comment by Hélène on February 22nd, 2009 @ 1:00 pmI soooo wanted one of these when I first heard this in the news, but then I heard that the vibrations can be bad for the computer. So, I figured I’d need a desk seperate from the tredmill (which I’d have to buy also). But can you really type and walk at the same time? It seems like that would be tricky.
Comment by carmen wright on March 3rd, 2009 @ 10:56 pmHi Carmen!
Yup, I can type and walk quite easily, but of course I’m only going one mile an hour.
I suppose you could put the computer on a separate table and have an external keyboard closer to where you’re working/walking. I just plunk my laptop on the desk and I’m off to the races. The walking is at such a slow pace, it doesn’t create much vibration at all, but that may depend on the style of your treadmill.
Comment by Hélène on March 7th, 2009 @ 9:55 am[...] I also managed to gain about 7 lbs from too much *butt-in-chair*. So this year I thought I’d do NaNoWriMo with a twist. Well, hopefully not a twist (of the ankle) since I’ll be walking my way to 50,000 words with my treadmill desk. [...]
Comment by Hélène Boudreau » NaNoWriMo Walk and Write on October 13th, 2009 @ 5:56 pmHilarious!
I wonder if I can set something like that up for a recumbent bike??? hmmmm.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo! You’re tempting me to participate….
