***CONTEST CLOSED***

Winner! Jenna! (Jennifer Clark Estes)

It started off modestly enough. I’d hold a nice little contest and give away a copy of REAL MERMAIDS DON’T WEAR TOE RINGS.

Lovely, right? … but it wouldn’ t be ENOUGH. So, then I thought, huh…maybe I’ll do a fun #hashtag contest on Twitter and give away FIVE copies.

Cool! …but what about people who aren’t on Twitter? What about all my Facebook pals?  Shouldn’t I give away a few copies over there? Maybe FIVE copies there, too?? So, okay, okay.

TEN copies of REAL MERMAIDS DON’T WEAR TOE RINGS to giveaway. You heard it, TEN!

Totally serious! Wanna win one?? Here’s how…

TWITTER:

Tweet using the hashtag #realmermaids for a chance to win one of the FIVE twitter copies. For example:

#realmermaids don’t wear toe rings (but that one’s taken ;-) ) or I brake for #realmermaids

Funniest tweets win! Winners are totally up to the discretion of my judges @bostonbookgirl, @authoressanon, @jodimeadows, @kathleenpeacock and @elissacruz. Thank you, lovelies!

Please keep it PG, though, people! Think of the children!! :-)

FACEBOOK:

Just go ahead and LIKE my page on Facebook and post in the contest thread for a chance to win one of FIVE Facebook copies. Unlike Twitter, this contest is not limited to 140 characters. You can play with the #realmermaids twitter concept or tell me a joke, or write me a poem, the sky is the limit. Just make me LAUGH! Again, the five funniest WIN!

Oh, and what the heck. Post in the comments here, too, for a chance to win. So you know what that means…ELEVEN books to give away! That’s what I’m talking about!

*Open to US/Canadian residents / Contest runs until December 5th/ Contest winners will be announced randomly over the next five days so stay tuned!

UPDATE! The fun never ends!

THREE more chances to win: Dreamscape is giving away three autographed copies of the audiobook right here:

http://www.facebook.com/DreamscapeAudio

Just LIKE their page and you’re entered to win! Audiobook contest runs until December 20th!

Darby’s here! With a chance to win FACING FIRE!

Date: Tuesday October 12, 2010
Posted in: Contests

*I am SO excited because today, Darby from A WALK THROUGH A WINDOW is visiting da blog to tell us about her new book! Read to the end for a chance to win! -Hélène*

Hello Hélène’s Hipsters!

My name is Darby Christopher, and Hélène has kindly stepped off her treadmill desk and invited me to walk along beside her out here on her blog for the day. <Welcome, Darby! -H>

Normally I’m more up for riding my skate deck, but hey — I’ll try anything once! You can usually find me doing ollies <Cool! can you teach me how to do that?!> down Yonge Street [there’s a nice hill near where I live], but this month I’m cruising  the internets, celebrating the launch of my new book. It’s called FACING FIRE.

FACING FIRE picks up the story of what happened to me after the magical summer that you may have read about in A WALK THROUGH A WINDOW.  Both books tell the story of how many different Canadians came to Canada. What’s WAY cool is that I am a huge fan of Hélène’s ACADIAN STAR, <aww…thanks…> and in my new book, I get to experience a bit of a different take on the whole Grand Derangement story. So Hélène and me have got more than our raw athleticism in common! <heheh…>

If you’d like to learn more about either of my stories, you may want to have a peek at kc dyer’s website:  www.kcdyer.com

Or better still, maybe you’d like to WIN a copy? If you leave a comment on this post, Hélène will put your name into a draw to win a signed copy of the new book – FACING FIRE. And if you actually link to this post somewhere else [like in another blog, or facebook post or even a tweet] we’ll put your name in for the draw for BOTH of my books. <Go for it!>

By the way, if you’re into looking for prizes, [especially if you like making videos], check out my blog HERE at Darby Speaks. I have an AMAZING contest going with some totally fantastic prizes. And if you like twitter, you can follow all the latest on the contest and the blog tour and launches @DarbyWalking.

See you there.

And Hélène? Check out the name of my twitter feed. <Luv it!>You think maybe I should graduate to a treadmill desk instead of just walking through windows all the time? <As long as you teach me how to do an olly/ollie on your skate deck! :-)>

Thanks for having me! <ANYTIME!>

~Darby

**ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN! Canada and US only. Draw, Thursday, October 14th. GOOD LUCK!**

The reviews are in and they couldn’t be better!

Review in CM Magazine (click to read the full review…)

Keep Out! is truly a compelling story, with hints given throughout the book about who or what is causing the piping plovers’ eggs to be broken. Readers may be particularly interested in learning that the piping plover attempts to distract predators by pretending to have a broken wing. Keep Out! is especially recommended for emergent or reluctant readers, but it can be enjoyed by just about anyone.”

Review in The Chronicle Herald

“An excellent little mystery written in a fun, engaging, straightforward style makes Keep Out! a good choice for newer independent readers.”

This is perfect timing for the US release of KEEP OUT! (October 1st) so to CELEBRATE I am GIVING AWAY a signed copy of KEEP OUT!

Just post a message in the comments about your favourite rare or endangered animal or plant and you’re entered to win!

A bit about the book:

In KEEP OUT! Lucas and Andre try to solve the mystery of who, or what, has destroyed the endangered piping plover’s nest of Prince Edward Island National Park. And Lucas hatches a plan to get Andre to keep his dirty socks on his side of the room!

COMING: spring 2011

In WATER HAZARD! Lucas and Andre wonder how the best Irish Mossing horse in Prince Edward Island got injured. Was it an accident or sabotage? And will their classmate, Summer, stop reciting poetry long enough for them to figure it out?

Thanks to everyone who participated in my first annual ‘TALK LIKE A CAJUN/ACADIAN’ contest. I had a blast reading all of your entries!

Now, the moment of truth. You’ll see that the chicklets and I went to great lengths to ensure that winners were chosen under the most rigorous contest protocol and conditions:

Picture or Video 012

The ballots were shuffled, the mood was tense, we were at the edge of our stools…but there could only be ONE winner…

Picture or Video 013

Well, actually…since I have two chicklets, I couldn’t just let ONE of them choose. Imagine the discontent in the judging panel! So, in the spirit of equality, the second winner of our first annual ‘TALK LIKE A CAJUN/ACADIAN’ contest is….

I mean…

Yay!! Plus two very happy contest administrators in desperate need of nail-trimming, apparently.

Congratulations, Becky and Sandra! I will drop you a line to get your info in order to receive your autographed copy of ACADIAN STAR!

National TALK LIKE A CAJUN/ACADIAN DAY!

Date: Saturday August 15, 2009
Posted in: Contests

Okay, okay, so it’s NOT exactly ‘Talk like a Cajun/Acadian Day’ but August 15th IS National Acadian Day.

To celebrate…a CONTEST…to win a copy of my middle grade novel, ACADIAN STAR.

Acadian.Starlowres

To win, let’s have a bit of fun. I’m sure you’ve all heard of ‘Talk like a Pirate Day’ well here’s a twist. Our very own, super-spectacular…

TALK LIKE A CAJUN/ACADIAN DAY!!

To win a copy of ACADIAN STAR, you can either:

1. Just comment (yawn…)

OR…

2. Join in on the fun and tell me your favourite Acadian word. Mine is ‘BARDASSER’, which pretty much means trying to look busy, but otherwise goofing off (i.e. procrastinating).

OR…

3. REALLY get into it and leave a comment in your best Acadian ‘chiac’.

From Answers.com:

Chiac is a dialect of Acadian French heavily mixed and structured with English.

Par example: Drive ton car jusqu’a le store pour me chercher des buns pour les hamburgers.

OR…

4. As a hats-off to my Cajun cousins to the south, feel free throw in some Cajunisms too!!

So many CHOICES! So, have at it! A winner will be randomly chosen on Wednesday, August 19th. Bonne luck and good chance!!

Final winner! See you on the flipside…

Thanks to everyone for all your support and enthusiasm for ACADIAN STAR. Books are being shipped to stores, and people have been reporting that they’ve received their Amazon copies.

Hope you enjoy it!

What a fun time I’ve been having with this contest! Last week, your challenge was to post a comment with the word *CHAPTER* to celebrate the fact that I’ve posted the first chapter of ACADIAN STAR on my website. Check it out HERE, if you haven’t already.

And YES, I’ve picked a winner. Entries from this week were added to last week’s, giving me 83 to choose from. To keep things on the up-and-up, I used my handy dandy on-line Random Number Generator to pick the recipient of a free copy of ACADIAN STAR and I’m about to announce the WINNER.

Like RIGHT NOW!

I won’t even make you wait like I did last time.

Oh, wait a sec, first I need to tell you all about my upcoming book tour, coming up next week. I’m kicking off the tour in my hometown of Petit de Grat at the Petit de Grat Library and am SO excited. Here’s the 411:

Saturday, Oct 18, 2:00-3:30 pm— Official Launch, Petit de Grat Library

Oh, and something else, I need to show you the pretty invitation Nimbus Publishing created for my official launch:

It shows up kinda teeny here, but isn’t it nice? Click on it, if you want to see the actual size.

Volume One Bookstore from Port Hawkesbury will be on hand, selling books.

Oh, oh, and something else, if you can’t make it to Petit de Grat (but you SHOULD some day, cause it’s SO pretty there), I have lots of other bookstore signings to choose from:

Sunday, Oct 19, 12:00-2:00 pm— 563 Coles Antigonish
Sunday, Oct 19, 3:30-5:00 pm — 152 Coles New Glasgow
Friday, Oct 24, 7:00-9:00 pm — 221 Coles Halifax Shopping Centre
Saturday, Oct 25, 2:00-4:00 pm— 914 Chapters Dartmouth

So please pop by if you’re in the area! (let me know in the comments) I’d love to see you.

And, hmm, what else did I want to tell you all? Oh, yeah! Silly me. The winner! And I even told you I wouldn’t make you wait. The WINNER of this week’s free copy of ACADIAN STAR is…

Beryl Cole-Boudreau!!!

Congratulations, Beryl!!

To those who haven’t won, sorry! :-( But you have one LAST CHANCE.

To add another entry for your LAST CHANCE to win a free copy of ACADIAN STAR, just add a comment to this message with the word *LAUNCH*.

‘Cause now that I have all the dates confirmed for next week’s book tour, ACADIAN STAR is a go for launch!

Woohoo!!
